IELTS SPEAKING COURSE

IELTS stands for "International English Language Testing System", which assess non-native English learners on listening, reading, writing and speaking competencies. An IELTS speaking test consists of three parts, and this course teaches part 1 by providing learners with sample answers to questions of various topics, followed by vocabulary practice exercises.

REASONS BEHIND HIGH DROPOUT RATES OF MOOCS

In the last few years MOOCs have gained great attention, and with the explosion of COIVD19 pandemic, online learning in general and MOOCs in particular have been increasingly more and more preferred. Thanks to the convenience, flexibility and affordability, MOOCs have a great potential to dominate the learning industry.

However, these online courses are facing one of the most crucial challenges, which is the extremely high dropout rates. There are many reasons behind this disappointing phenomenon, either from students or from the courses, and in fact, there have been numerous studies revolving around this problem. This term paper will discuss multiple factors contributing to low course completion rates of MOOCs and suggest several possible solutions to these problems.

REASONS BEHIND LEARNER DROPOUT IN MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES

The primary objective of this study is to identify the predominant factors influencing learners' choices to discontinue participation in a MOOC. This investigation will be conducted in comparison to the findings of a prior study titled "Factors affecting student dropout in MOOCs: a cause and effect decision-making model" by Aldowah, H., Al-Samarraie, H., Alzahrani, A. I., & Alalwan, N. (2020).

AECT 1.2

Candidate demonstrates the ability to select and use technological resources and processes to support student learning and to enhance their pedagogy.

The content of the Instructional Design Project was from "How to crack the IELTS Speaking part 1" by Dang Tran Tung (2019). However, the format and how the content is delivered is modified and enhanced to engage and motivate learners.

AECT 2.2

Candidates implement appropriate educational technologies and processes based on appropriate content pedagogy.

The Instructional Design Project and Multimedia e-Learning Environment utilized the ADDIE model and were created using either Articulate Storyline 360 or Canvas. CreateStudio was also used to for videos and graphics.

AECT 3.6

Candidates foster a learning community that empowers learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.

The Instructional Design Project and Multimedia e-Learning Environment went through accessibility check that ensures both of them are inclusive and accommodate different learners' needs and preferences.

Candidates design and implement assessment and evaluation plans that align with learning goals and instructional activities.

Knowledge check and practice exercises were incorporated throughout the The Instructional Design Project and Multimedia e-Learning Environment.

AECT 5.1

Candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge of the contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and technology.

The Needs Assessment and Research Project include literature reviews of previous research on online learning in general and MOOCs in particular. The Instructional Design Project and Multimedia e-Learning Environment also demonstrate the principles of How People Learn.
